MEDIEVAL POP OUTSHINES

 @

LAKME FASHION WEEK W/F 2012

EMBELLISH BY SANNAM CHOPRA

Out of box creativity and exceptional imagination was clearly evident in  Talent box Jewellery designer Sannam Chopra’s embellishment collection titled‘Medieval Pop’ at Lakme Fashion Week, Winter Festive 2012 on 4th August at Grand Hyatt. Inspired by medieval age, where a damsel observing the brawny men do sword fight in the courts of king was beautifully carved by Sannam in her collection.

The collection was accentuated with the use of Swarovski crystals, metal rivets and chains while leather protectors add the desired edge to the jewellery. Modern geometry ruled the collection, which ranges from necklaces, earrings, cuffs, hair accessories and bags respectively. USP of the collection was its bold-aged; softly-rugged look with a dash of colour making each piece dramatic. This young designer left the crowd amused by her immense talent and the response was overwhelming.

On this occasion, designer Sannam Chopra states, “This time, I have tried something entirely new! It’s the first time I have used leather extensively in jewellery and introduced bags.  It was a great experience showcasing the collection at such a big platform. Now I look forward to witness how media, buyers and fashion enthusiastic perceive it."

SPECTACULAR CLOSING

BY

ANIKET SATAM

DAY 1 GEN NEXT SHOW

Gen next Designer Aniket Satam draws attention to Mayan myth 2012, in his collection “Aarambh” at Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2012 on 3rd August at Grand Hyatt. Mayan myth 2012, the last year on our calendar where the earth undergoes spiritual transformation and mark the beginningof a new era, was the sole inspiration in his compilation.

The designer worked on garments like scribbled pieces of paper with stained ink and blotches of gleaming hope thus celebrating the secret author of our own karma- our own self. The highlight of the collection was the orchestrated chaos of a new beginning forming a prime foundation to every look the designer has conceptualized.

On this occasion Aniket excitedly states, “I have worked on layered silhouettes and tactile texture narrating visceral orgy of our complex minds. Color schemes including milk, ivory, cobalt and ink- viscose are blended with fabrics like georgette, cotton jersey, raw silk and velvet are textured further with flashes of gold foil on bed of abstract embroidery strokesIt’s like adding piece of prose or not of prayer of such fashionable new awakening.”

The eye catching segment of the show was the renowned models walking the ramp like Nethra Raghuraman, Surelee Joseph, Sheela Tiruchi, Samantha Singh, looked fabulous in Aniket’s ensemble. The high voltage music and energetic crowd cheering the designer electrified the atmosphere.

The black  lines on a plain white crisp paper  juxtapose into a composition of broken lines stating confusion in initial stages. This gradually ends into a perfect assortment of straight, curved and broken lines developing into a croqui and fashion figures. The initial stage of deriving a sketch more popularly known as a “Doodle Sheet” includes rough derivation of stick figures, faces, hands finally developing into a croqui and then the proportional 10 head figure which is taught at the early stages of sketching.

All that she had learnt and imbibed during these classes is the medium of transferring ideas on to a paper.  That’s exactly what she has put into the collection, saving pages from Doodle back way back from college and executing them through digital printing technique onto pure white fabrics such as Dupion silk ,Tabby silk and Crepe silk treating them as the paper.

First ensemble is a high raised neck structured shift dress with  rough illustrations of faces on silk teamed up with a paneled godet jacket to get the correct flow in the garment. The print on the jacket is a 10 head figure block used for getting the right proportions. The dress is a two piece ensemble which can be worn with or without the jacket depending on the occasion and purpose.

Second ensemble is a jacket jump suit in crepe silk with structured jacket top and flowy pants depicting the rigidity in initial sketches ending to easy flow of full fledged fashion figures. Print consists of 10 head body figure and stick figures in action .its best suited for an evening wear in monochromes black and white.

ESPRIT
PRESENTS
FALL-HOLIDAY COLLECTION 2012-2013

Esprit’s offering for  Fall-Holiday  2012/13 is a whirlwind tour of international fashion across the world’s chicest cities, narrated by the beautiful Gisele Bundchen, ably styled by French stylist and fashion editor Camille Bidault-Waddington and shot to perfection by British fashion photographer David Sims. The collection for Fall-Holiday evokes the cosmopolitan woman, chic and on-trend whatever the occasion and wherever she might be.

The collection is reminiscent of the Big City Woman and her daily life – shopping on 5th avenue or relaxing at a downtown Parisian cafe. Walk the higher end of high street this season as the collection introduces outstanding high quality wools and velvets contrasted with flowing jerseys, silks and satins. A relaxed silhouette is broken with edgy leather accents this season – evoking the laidback Urban with an Edge vibe. Explore the fall landscape through muted burgundy and merlot, and add glam through metallic finishes. End with a muted coral and moss green in slim fit denims and knits to complete effortless city chic a la Gisele.

edc by Esprit:

Women – Get out and about this Fall Holiday and explore both the big city and natural influences. Start with feminine dress in cute style broken up by chunky knit cardigan and chunky boots. Experiment with structured cotton and striking mesh contrasted with undyed slub twill, or work an oversized look this Fall coupled with slim fit denims. Work burnt blue with beige and olive tones this Fall.

Men – Bring the outdoors in with denims in a strong vintage wash or add accents in checkered flannel. Add a city vibe with a smart wool gilet or fabulous quilted sports jackets. Natural is in this season with napped cotton and moleskin in suede, cord and leather effect finishes.

Woman’s wear:

Casual: Dress you state of mind this season with relaxed new silhouettes. Work cotton jodhpurs with an oversized check shirt made from napped flannel and a casual cotton parka with a fake fur trim, or skinny denims with chunky cable knit sweater and wool pea coat. Move from flowing silks to jacquard to chunky loose knits. It’s all about wearing your thoughts.

Collection: Real life is the inspiration behind the Collection range. Narrow riding pants with leather patch appliqués paired with a checkered boxy jacket in contrasts such cavalry twill and cotton silks make a striking statement.  Angora and eco fur outerwear contrasts structured blazers and a smart business wardrobe to reflect the myriad personas of the urban Gisele.

Men’s wear:

Casual:  Vintage inspired, Esprit’s California heritage is beautifully evoked through Henley shirts in irregularly structured yarn, coupled with an outdoor knit jacket with a shawl collar. Wool jackets with a down lining sit beside wool and chambray in colours of the Big Sur, from oceanic blues to a burnt orange and cognac for a subdued tone.

Collection: Reinterpret the urban male, the counterpart to a city Gisele, this Fall season. Slim fit trousers coupled with slightly overcut tops in a looser silhouette, using high quality wool and cashmere mixes evoke business meetings and nights out in Berlin and Paris. Nod to the outdoors in details such as open edges, taped seams and handcrafted details that evoke natural California.

The ‘Bodywear’ collection marries form and function for men and women with details such as using soft, brushed materials and soft flannels. Hipster shorts with seams and chunky drawstrings add a masculine edge. A key focus is the combinable range for both men and women - experiment with playful checkered bottoms coupled with hoodies sporting contrast elbow patches.
