FOUR VETERAN DESIGNERS

CELEBRATE IN FOUR PARTS

OGAAN

As part of OGAAN's Celebration in Four Parts, four veteran designers Faiza Samee, Kavita Bhartia, Kiran Uttam Ghosh and Studio Petticoat designed couture collections for the Fall-Winter wedding and it's four central events -- bright shararas and lehengas for day events like the mehendi, intricately embellished pieces for the sangeet and reception, and heavy, bright saris, kurtas and lehengas for the wedding.

For the two days of the exhibition, at DLF Emporio's atrium, event designer Sumant Jayakrishnan created a private tent installation, as an installation and browsing space for each of the designers.

The event kick started over high tea and seen in attendance were  Ritu Kumar, Tikka Shatrujeet Singh, Vikrum Baidyanath, Anita Kumar, Sonam Dubal, Kalyani Chawla, Sunil Sethi, Kiran Uttam Ghosh, AD Singh, Neera Nath, Kavita Bhartia, Hemant Khandelwal, Taniya Ahuja to name a few. While all designers had models wearing their collections at the exposition, we saw socialite Shalini Passi playing perfect muse for designer Kiran Uttam Ghosh, who looked stunning in a red Indian ensemble.

Pakistani couture designer Faiza Samee showcased a collection specially designed for Ogaan with the upcoming festive season in mind.

'The silhouettes -- saris, lehengas with short blouses, voluminous shararas -- combine traditional Pakistani and Indian elements, bringing them together in an exciting new way. The embroideries, done by the finest craftsmen from Pakistan, borrow strongly from our shared common heritage,' Faiza says of her collection.

The Kavita Bhartia line experimented with draped saris, and contemporary embroideries.  In kurtas, swathes of neon pink and orange chiffon accentuate gold monotone embroidery on gold tissue.

"We've experimented with sari drapes, lycra sari skirts, concept blouses, and new placement embroideries this season. It's a collection for the contemporary wedding,"  Kavita says.

Kiran Uttam Ghosh brought a contemporary edge to Indian couture with geometric embroideries, jagged and gold-dipped edges and unusual silhouettes.

Young designers Divya Sahaya and Debyani Malhotra's label Studio Petticoat is known for its unique mixing of traditional embroidery, print and colour. With neon colours on nakshai embroidery and jaal prints and gold zardozi embroidery in Kashmir inspired motifs on shirt kurtas, the Studio Petticoat collection promises to be ornate yet playful.

GO GREEN ! JOIN THE ECO PROJECT.

REUSE, REDUCE AND RECYCLE !

Since its inception in 1978, Hidesign has always pushed for a greener way of doing things. Today, Hidesign is a recognised leader in the research of the ecological use of vegetable tanned leathers for its leather goods. Learning from the centuries old skills of tanning with natural seeds and barks, Hidesign has created fashionable leathers that age exceptionally well.

Hidesign realizes the importance of creating awareness towards conserving the environment, and hopes to lend support towards promoting afforestation and bringing to light the importance of reuse. The Art of Reuse annual project follows the “Everyday Green” effort of the brand, where we design and create usable art pieces such as waste baskets, stools, trays and other innovative products out of scrap leather, displayed in stores across India.

Hidesign is excited to announce the launch of its annual eco-initiative ‘The Art of Reuse’. Hidesign recognized as an eco friendly leather goods brand, has carved a niche for itself amongst luxury goods. As a brand, Hidesign has consistently tried to create space in its consumers’ mind on the importance of being eco friendly, using natural elements, and impressing upon the beauty of the handcrafted. Taking the mandate further one step further, Hidesign would like to stress on the need to recycle and reuse.

We believe the best way to get an idea across is to engage people through participation. Last year’s campaign was a huge success and we hope to spread more awareness and encourage a higher level of interaction each year”, says Dilip Kapur, President of Hidesign.

The Art of Reuse is an engagement project to support and encourage the practice of upcycling used materials, which one discards as waste or redundant goods into new materials/products of better quality with a higher environmental value. The initiative is in the form of  a contest, where participants are encouraged to create new designs out of leather scrap provided by Hidesign in The Art of Reuse Kit, available at all Hidesign stores PAN India. One needs to register on Facebook to collect the kits from a preferred store and design anything they like. The designs then need to be submitted back at the Hidesign stores and winners will be selected through votes on Hidesign’s page on Facebook. On the 25th of September, three winners will be selected who will receive Hidesign gift vouchers worth Rs. 15000, Rs. 10000 and Rs. 5000 respectively.

This project is part of Hidesign’s efforts to communicate the beauty of handcrafting and the joy of human endeavour. The annual campaign by Hidesign reaches out to a larger audience by introducing the simplicity in recycling and increasing the appreciation of handcrafted products. At Hidesign, we believe this initiative could take on a much larger form if we get your support. For further information log onto ww.facebook.com/hidesign.
