MADHURI WALKS FOR ANJU MODI

DELHI COUTURE WEEK 2012

Who is this, steering close to the shore
singing?
I feel that she is someone I know.

The sails are filled wide, she gazes ahead,
waves break helplessly against the boat each side.

I watch and feel I have seen her face before.”

                                             - Rabindranath Tagore

This year, Anju Modi presented her collection DEVI.

The collection took inspiration from some of the most vivid characters inked throughout the Bengali literature and those that have been cinematically brought to life.

Their exquisite purity, their passion and their raw characterization is what she beautifully delves into, creating designs that dwell in their innate immortal character.
This year she weaves a dream collection commemorating the ethereal and iconic characters that defined and epitomized women-hood, in an endeavor to levitate women in all their avatars.

SWAPNIL SHINDE PRESENTED

FROZEN FRAGILITY

LAKME FASHION WEEK W/F 2012

Swapnil Shinde, an accomplished, talented and the most loved designer among the fashion aficionados displayed an amazing set of collections with his uber, modish, eccentric designs christened as ‘FROZEN FRAGILITY @ Lakme Fashion Week – Autumn/Winter 2012 on 6th August 2012, at 7.30 pm in Grand Hyatt..

The collection was inspired from the horror flicks of the Hindi film industry from the late 50's and early 60's. References included a vision of the lead actress in a white sari with her pallu flying in the air, crystal chandeliers whistling through the wind, the hero with his rigid tweed blazers, the gothic symbolism and finally romance.

The silhouettes were inspired from the late 50's and early 60's a sort of confined imagery of what women should look like in those times, cinched waists, big shoulders, exaggerated sleeves, full volume skirts.

Colour story incorporated jet black, ivory, shades of slate and steel blue, blood red and sunflower yellow.

FROZEN FRAGILITY embodied a very realistic line of ensembles with just the right touches of drama and fashion.

Designer Swapnil elatedly shares his views, “My collection is fascinated with the effects of wind on fabric in particular the synthesis of structure and chaos, the idea was to have surrealistic approach to fabric manipulation, folding, pleating, fit, silhouette and structure blending fluidity with a certain level of rigidity, freezing fabric flying, providing a visual treat to the fashionistas. I am sure it will be a show – stopping spectacle.”

Swapnil’s Show witnessed many popular celebrities like Sameera & Sushma Reddy, Huma Qureshi, Anushka Manchanda, Karishma Tanna, Apoorva and Shilpa Agnihotri, Bruna Abdullah, Michelle and Delna Poonawala, Designer Masaba and Neena Gupta.

RITIKA BHARWANI

MIDNIGHT SOIREE COLLECTION

LAKME FASHION WEEK W/F 2012

Young, dynamic and doué designer Ritika Bharwani uleashed a contemporary themed collection christened ‘MIDNIGHT SOIREE’at Lakme Fashion Week – Autumn/Winter 2012 on 6th August 2012, at 4 pm in Grand Hyatt.
The collection paid homage to modern contemporary architecture which was interpreted in the designs through geometric and circular embroidery motifs juxtaposed on dramatic yet structured silhouettes. Inspiration to this contemporary collection hailed from the timeless European architectural design motifs which were characterized by symmetry and proportion.
The collection dawns like the morning sun, changing hues from molten gold to a fiery vermillion, progressing into deeper hues such as electric blue and midnight black, played across georgettes, jersey with shimmer foil and flowing nets. Interpreting the art of embellishment in her own unique way, this doué designer experimented with raised embroidery techniques using mother-of-pearl and gold metal materials. This embellishment found the perfect partner in shimmer foil gold jersey that has been crafted to drape along the silhouette. This high glamour collection leaned heavily on dramatic drapes and fluid structuring that lends itself perfectly to cocktail dresses, dramatic gowns, stylish jumpsuits as well as separates.
On this occasion, Ritika Bharwani asserts, “Each creation of my collection ‘Midnight Soiree’ is crafted to perfection with imaginative construction and embellishments. I am also looking at constructive feedback that I always rely on to constantly better my work.”
